Quantum Mechanics & Information Theory

Quantum Theory is one of the most important scientific achievements of the last century. Another is Information Theory. These two areas initially developed separately, but recently they become intertwined. In fact it has been realized that, on the one hand, the ultimate limits in information processing are dictated by the physical laws (those of quantum mechanics). On the other hand, quantum mechanical systems can be characterized by their information content and their information manipulation ability. Hence the birth of Quantum Information Science. More recently, also general relativity and gravity are called into play giving rise to Relativistic Quantum Information Science.
The QM&IT group investigates, at theoretical/mathematical level, some quantum & geometric aspects of information processing.
